Palmetto Leadership Academy Fellows Honored at Statehouse
Columbia, S.C.—Conservation Voters of South Carolina Education Fund (CVSCEF) proudly announces that fellows from its leadership development initiative, the Palmetto Leadership Academy, were formally recognized at the South Carolina Statehouse today for their commitment to conservation and public service.
During their visit, fellows engaged with lawmakers, observed legislative proceedings, and were honored by the South Carolina House of Representatives for their dedication to protecting the state’s environment through civic leadership. This recognition marks an exciting milestone for the program and underscores the important role appointed public service plays in advancing conservation throughout South Carolina.
The Palmetto Leadership Academy is a nonpartisan program that recruits, trains, and supports emerging leaders interested in serving in appointed roles on state and local boards and commissions. PLA equips fellows with a deep understanding of South Carolina’s environmental and conservation challenges, the structure and influence of appointed public bodies, and the tools to become effective, ethical, and informed contributors to public decision-making.
“South Carolina’s boards and commissions play a powerful but often overlooked role in shaping our state’s conservation future,” said Tori Oluseyi, Palmetto Leadership Academy Program Manager. “The Palmetto Leadership Academy helps ensure that more community-minded individuals are prepared and supported to serve in these appointed roles where they can make a real difference.”
To support the program’s continued growth and success, CVSCEF will raise funds for the Palmetto Leadership Academy during the 2025 Midlands Gives initiative on Tuesday, May 6. Donations will help develop training opportunities, grant fellow stipends, and expand outreach to ensure more South Carolinians from diverse backgrounds are equipped to serve their communities through appointed public service.
We invite all who care about conservation, equity, and civic engagement to join us in investing in the future of South Carolina’s environmental leadership by giving to CVSC Education Fund during Midlands Gives.
