To the Senate we go!
Thank you! All of the hard work paid off in week 7 of session with H.3659 – the Clean Energy Freedom Act – passing 110-0 out of the House of Representatives. I’d like to recognize all of the work that went into the House compromise in the LCI Committee with Reps. Sandifer and Forrester. I must also give a shout out to solar champions Reps. McCoy, Ballentine, and Clary for making sure this made it to the floor in the House. Check out the press release here!
We’re only halfway to the finish line.
Now we get to work with Senators to pass the Clean Energy Freedom Act before it’s too late for solar jobs this year when net metering caps are hit.
What happened last week:
- Clean Energy: H.3659 passed 110-0 out of the House Representatives. Kudos go to the House LCI Committee for their support of clean energy and to the latest co-sponsors: Representatives B. Cox, Blackwell, Spires, Calhoon, Elliott, Morgan, Loftis, Bradley, Willis, Toole, and Henderson-Myers.S.332 (the Senate companion to H.3659) was discussed in a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee last week as well. They plan to take it up again soon to better understand the amended compromise coming out of the House. Ultimately, H.3659 will be the bill to move forward since it’s already passed out of the House chamber.
- If you were able to join us at the legislative breakfast with the Conservation Coalition, thank you! I had a great time connecting conservation voters to their legislators over breakfast.
The week ahead:
- Defending Home Rule: Unfortunately, the bill that seeks to strip away the ability of communities to limit plastic pollution is moving forward in a Senate LCI Subcommittee this week. We’re working with partners on testimony and messaging to Senators.
And finally, please sign up for the March 19 Conservation Coalition Lobby Day and Oyster Roast.
As always, you can continue to follow our weekly hotlist and more opportunities to take action at www.cvsc.org.
