Lawmakers Return to the Statehouse

As we enter into the fourth week of social distancing due to COVID-19, we are still at a legislative standstill. Unfortunately though, legislators are faced with a few must-do items that need to be addressed before the end of session (sine die) on May 14th. Therefore, legislators are returning this Wednesday, April 8th, for a limited session to pass a continuing resolution to adopt last Year’s budget and to clarify how the General Assembly will move forward in the coming months in a sine die resolution.

You can watch the session here. We’ll continue to send you updates on what the legislative path looks like for our conservation priorities.

As we continue to practice social distancing, we encourage you to stay tuned into our webinar series, Conversation with ConservationistsOn Thursday, April 9th at 4:30 PM, with our conservation partners, CVSC will be participating in the third episode of the series. The conversation will concentrate on how the Public Service Commission is implementing the Energy Freedom Act and what that could mean for our clean energy future. We’ll even have a special guest – Senator Tom Davis! And, on Tuesday, April 14th at 11:30 AM, the fourth episode will address how we are working with legislators and partners to set land protection goals for South Carolina.

If you missed our first episodes, click here to catch up on the conversation, featuring appearances from Congressman Joe Cunningham and state Representative Nathan Ballentine.

Going forward, routing through these questionable times will require us to remain creative. And, with grace in front of us, we want to continue to meet you where you are and stay connected. If you’re like me, getting through these times haven’t been extremely easy. So, grace has been and continues to be a gift.

With that said, if you want to do something that makes you feel connected to some of the issues that you care about, consider checking out some of our federal legislative actions.

We know that we’re all still adjusting to this new normal. So, we want to thank you for all that you do to protect the air, land, and water of South Carolina. As you continue to stay healthy and safe, please remember that it’s going to take all of us to get through this.
