Investing in a Brighter Future for South Carolina
Every conservation win starts with people who believe South Carolina is worth protecting and choose to invest in that future.
As we kick off our Summer Giving Drive, we wanted to introduce you to a few of the people who make CVSC’s work possible. Our supporters come from all over, with unique backgrounds and experiences, but they share a belief that protecting South Carolina’s air, land, and water requires all of us.
We asked three CVSC members to share why they give and what inspires them to be part of this work. Their stories are a reminder that giving is about more than making a donation. It’s about joining a community of people committed to leaving South Carolina better than we found it.
Meet Kathy: Supporting a Stronger Conservation Movement
Kathy from Columbia still appreciates South Carolina’s natural beauty in the same way she did when she first moved here over 40 years ago. She supports CVSC because she recognizes that our landscapes and communities face urgent environmental challenges that can only be overcome through a collaborative approach.
“I remember a time when South Carolina had no particular, strong voice on environmental issues, but I’ve seen CVSC step up and be really effective at building bipartisan support and bringing conservation into many important conversations.”
For Kathy, giving is her way of supporting a stronger conservation movement.
Meet David: Protecting South Carolina’s Coast
David from Mount Pleasant has always had a special appreciation for South Carolina’s coastline. He’s spent years fishing and surfing, so supporting CVSC’s recent work to pass local wetlands protections has been especially meaningful to him.
“From studying marine science in undergrad, to learning the legal side of conservation in law school, I’ve seen the importance of tackling environmental issues from different perspectives. I support CVSC because they have the expertise to protect our land and water through policy.”
For David, giving is his way of protecting the waters he’s always cherished.
Meet April: Giving Conservation a Powerful Voice
April from Mountain Rest is a paddler who loves to explore the state’s waterways rich in plants and wildlife. As a retired educator, she believes in CVSC’s ability to empower the next generation of conservation leaders who will look after our state and precious natural resources for years to come.
“I am thrilled about the success of the Palmetto Leadership Academy. SC’s population is growing; we’ve got more roads being built every day, more red lights, more congestion. And no more land. So there’s more work to be done than ever to protect the undeveloped land we have. Working now to expand the roster of leaders prepared to meet the challenges (or, better, anticipate them!) of the future makes so much sense to me.”
For April, giving is her way of ensuring that conservation has a powerful voice in South Carolina.
