CVSC Statement on Governor Henry McMaster
COLUMBIA, SC – On Tuesday evening, January 24, Henry McMaster was sworn in as the 117th Governor of South Carolina. Following the ceremonial swearing in, Conservation Voters of South Carolina (CVSC) Executive Director John Tynan issued the following statement:
“Conservation Voters congratulates Governor McMaster on his new role in shaping the future of South Carolina. We look forward to working alongside him to protect South Carolina’s precious air, land, and water resources.
Governor McMaster has a long history of forging a pragmatic path to protect what makes South Carolina unique. As Attorney General, he fought for legislation to empower a state grand jury to investigate complex pollution crimes and opposed North Carolina’s diversion of 72 million gallons of water per day from the Catawba River.
As Lt. Governor, McMaster spoke out against offshore drilling, showing his willingness to take a thoughtful and pragmatic approach to preserve our tourism economy and the environment and quality of life along our coast.
We look forward to working with Governor McMaster to build on his numerous achievements and protect the air, land, and water that define us as a people and a state.”
