CVSC Leadership Transition—A Strong Future Ahead
Dear Friends,
After nearly a decade of dedicated service, CVSC President John Tynan has announced that he will be leaving his role this fall to accept a national leadership position advancing bipartisan support for land and water protection. We are deeply grateful for his vision and dedication in making CVSC one of the most effective conservation organizations in South Carolina.
During his tenure, CVSC has quadrupled its budget, tripled staff, and delivered meaningful wins for the environment and communities across the state—from passing landmark clean energy legislation to securing permanent reauthorization of the South Carolina Conservation Bank, protecting drinking water from toxic chemicals, and building momentum for new parks and historic site preservation. Under his leadership, we’ve contacted millions of voters, achieved election victories, and consistently stopped harmful legislation in its tracks.
While we will miss John’s leadership, CVSC is entering this transition phase from a position of strength. We have a talented and passionate team, a dedicated Board of Directors, and earlier this year, we launched our bold new 10-year strategic plan. This plan is a roadmap for CVSC to lead with greater clarity as we protect our air, land, and water, advance clean energy, and ensure every South Carolinian has a voice in environmental decision-making.
With the news of John’s departure, the CVSC Board of Directors is launching a comprehensive search for our next President. We are committed to identifying a leader who will build on our momentum, lead us into the next chapter, and position CVSC to deliver even greater impact in the years ahead.
