CVSC Education Fund Prepares Future Leaders Through Midlands Gives Initiative

COLUMBIA, SCConservation Voters of South Carolina Education Fund (CVSCEF) invites you to invest in our state’s future leaders by supporting its Palmetto Leadership Academy (PLA) during Midlands Gives, an initiative by the Central Carolina Community Foundation that connects donors to causes they care about.

This year, CVSCEF is leveraging Midlands Gives Day—which takes place on May 7—to raise $5,000 to sponsor two Palmetto Leadership Academy Fellows through its Fall 2024 cohort. PLA aims to ensure that local boards and commissions reflect South Carolina’s diversity and its core conservation values. By providing intense training and mentorship, PLA equips fellows with the skills to seek and serve in these positions, preparing them to become strong and effective conservation champions for their communities.

“Far too often, individuals with the greatest passion for public service and our environment are left out of the meaningful conversations and decisions that impact the people and communities they care about. That is why CVSCEF established the Palmetto Leadership Academy – to recruit, train, and support aspiring leaders to fill influential roles on local boards and commissions, directly impacting the quality of life of their neighbors and all people living in South Carolina.”  Tori Oluseyi, Community Leadership Project Manager

The inaugural Palmetto Leadership Academy is currently underway with a cohort of 15 fellows who are eager to make a positive impact on South Carolina. These fellows will undergo six full-day sessions covering topics such as government function, campaign fundamentals, parliamentary procedure, and constituent engagement.

Once fellows complete the program, CVSCEF will work with regional partners to help them secure appointments to local boards and commissions. The organization will continue to support the fellows on their public service journey by providing continuing education and resources.

CVSCEF invites our Midlands family—and supporters across the stateto help ensure every PLA fellow has the resources they need to engage in the Academy program fully, gain the experience and skills needed to be an exceptional leader, and go on to serve on a board or

commission in their own community. Your gift to CVSCEF’s Palmetto Leadership Academy during Midlands Gives is an investment in the future of South Carolina.

Those who are interested in learning more or donating to support the Palmetto Leadership Academy are invited to mark their calendars for May 7, and visit the CVSCEF profile on the Midlands Gives platform. For those who want to give prior to Midlands Gives Day, early giving is now open!
