Who is eligible to play in the Central Vancouver SC?
All boys and girls who are starting kindergarten in the fall and those who are under age 19 on July 31st. The age groups are U-5 (4 years old as of 7/31) through U-19.
What does the "U" number stand for?
"U" stands for "under". Example: U-10 team would have all of their players at age 9 or younger as of July 31st of the current playing season.
Who can coach a team?
Most of our coaches are parents of players. The registrar will call the player's parents and ask if they would like to "volunteer" to coach a team.
I would like to coach a team but I never played the game?
Many of our coaches did not play the game. We will have to wait until the next generation to find parents with playing experience. There are coaching clinics available that are free for our coaches.
What is a coaching license?
Washington State Youth Soccer Association (WSYSA) and Columbia Youth Soccer Federation (CYSF) offer coaching clinics in our area during the summer. Central Vancouver SC uses the following guidelines for our coaches:
U-6 through U-8 = Level 1 Clinic
U-8 through U-11 = Level 2 Clinic
U-12 & above = "E" License course (18 hours)
Select teams = "D" License course (36 hours)
What is the Mini-Mod program?
Mini-Mod is for our youngest players U-5 through U-8. The games are played in a non-competitive environment. No wins or losses. No record of goals. Most of the games are against other Central Vancouver SC teams with inter-club play with other CYSF clubs
Why Divisions?
At U-9 and above, our recreation teams are placed in divisions to equalize the level of play between teams. Most opponents are from different clubs.
There is a first half and second half season of play. Win/loss records and scores are used to adjust the divisions for the second half of seasonal of play.
Awards are given out to 1st Place teams in each half of the season for teams above U-11 age group.
Team standings are not kept for U-9/10. Game scores are recorded for the sole purpose of division alignment for competitive reasons.
What is the District League?
Our club is located in District 5 (7 districts in the state). Select teams play in the District 5 Gold League.
What is the difference in a recreation and select team?
Recreational teams are formed by the club registrar, taking into consideration some of the following: neighborhood, school area and the number of players on each team. Team/coach requests are also granted if there is room on the roster. Select teams are formed in the spring with team tryouts taking place in April/May. CVSC will mail out tryout announcements to players that played for the club last season.
Can my child play at a different age level?
Players may play up one year until they reach the U-14 age level. Through U-11, there can only be three (3) players playing up on a team. Washington State Youth Soccer Association (WSYSA) discourages players playing up.
Can a player switch teams?
Yes, a player may request a different team during the fall registration period. On July 1st, the registrar will fill out teams with player requests for a different team and any new players, if there is room on the requested team.
Can a player return to the same team from last year?
Yes, a player has until June 30th to register to be guaranteed placement on last year's fall team. If the player registers after June 30th - they can be placed on their last year's fall team if there is still an opening.
What if there are not enough players at an age level?
This starts to happen at the older age groups. Girls high school soccer season is in the fall, so we rarely have any teams older than GU-14. We usually have boy's teams through the BU-19 level. The registrar will notify players if there is not enough players to fill out a team. Options are to play up in age level or try to find a team with a different local club.
What if there are enough players but no coach?
A tough problem to deal with. With our licensing requirements it can be hard to find a coach. We will make every effort to find a coach for a team. The club has former coaches who come back to coach for a year just so the players can play.
Time Commitments?
Time commitments vary with ages. Mini-Mod and U-9/10 teams do not play in any post season tournaments. Recreational teams from U-11 and above have two tournaments to compete in; President's Cup, which is state wide, or the CYSF Season Ending tournament that is in the local area. Select teams enter the Commissioner's Cup that starts in January and runs through March.
Practices?
Most recreational teams start practicing in August. Usually two practices a week for 1 to 2 hours depending on age. Select teams are formed in the spring and will start practicing right after the selection process. Select teams are encouraged to enter summer tournaments.
